Seventy-five years ago, University of Chicago scientists led by Enrico Fermi ushered in the Atomic Age by achieving the first controlled, self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction. Throughout Fall 2017, the arts organizations and departments at the University of Chicago present lectures, performances, installations, and screenings to mark the 75th anniversary of the Chicago Pile-1 experiment and its complex legacy. The Arts, Science & Culture Initiative, working in partnership with the Department of Music and colleagues in the sciences, has commissioned three works by alumni and current student composers.
