Ensemble Dal Niente: Humming Between Branches

  • Holtschneider Performance Center (map)

Dal Niente performs music by leading Mexican and Argentinian composers, including Nur Slim’s Humming Between Branches for soprano with chamber orchestra, in which the singer’s voice dances between and among wildly varied instrumental textures, which shimmer, dive, and groan with kaliedascopic virtuosity.  The ensemble becomes an extension of the solo harp in Hilda Paredes’ Demente Cuerda; while in Tomás Gueglio’s Fantasia y Diálogo, the music evokes a kind of 40s glamour - at once shy and loud, at the same time proper and unapologetically melodramatic. Finally, Luis Amaya’s Tinta Roja, Tinta Negra mesmerizes the listener with subtly shifting textures that resonate around an amplified jarana.
